Biolab Farmacêutica presents a reduction of more than 94% in the use of non-renewable energy compared to the previous year
With progress in the three pillars of sustainability, the company highlights in its 2nd Sustainability Report that 45.5% of leadership positions are held by women
Biolab Farmacêutica, which is among the ten largest in its sector in Brazil, has just released its sustainability report, which shows significant progress in its environmental and social practices. In 2024, 65% of all the waste generated in the company's operations was sent for recycling - an increase of 28,42% on the previous year. In the same period, the company also reduced its consumption of energy from non-renewable sources by 94.77%, reinforcing its commitment to the energy transition and responsible management of natural resources.
"These results are the fruit of a continuous effort to make our operations increasingly sustainable, without sacrificing quality and innovation. We are acting responsibly at every stage of the chain, from production to disposal," says Tati Marques, Biolab's Director of Corporate Communication and Sustainability and responsible for the report.
Environmental goals and solutions for a sustainable operation
The organic waste generated at its new plant in Pouso Alegre (MG) is now being sent to composting plants. By 2025, the company has set itself the target of reducing the volume of waste generated per thousand units produced by 10%, promoting greater environmental efficiency in the production process.
In terms of water management, 100% of the industrial effluent generated by Biolab's operations is collected and treated in its own Effluent Treatment Plants (ETEs). The Pouso Alegre unit has a 466,000 liter reservoir, which collects and stores rainwater, water discharged by the treatment system and treated effluent. This volume is reused in non-potable activities such as irrigation, construction and vehicle washing.
Another highlight of the report is the use of renewable sources. Currently, around 90% of the energy used by the company comes from clean sources, either through the free energy market or solar generation. "Our goal is to use increasingly clean energy. We believe that the pharmaceutical industry can and should lead this movement, combining innovation with environmental impact," she adds.
Commitment to the social pillar gains strength at Biolab
In addition to environmental advances, Biolab has also strengthened its management and appreciation of people. In 2024, 45.5% of the company's leadership positions were held by women, which represents an increase of 26.39% compared to 2021. The company also monitors diversity and accessibility indicators, promoting an inclusive environment for people with disabilities.
Investment in human development was also expanded. In 2024, the Educational Incentive Program benefited 164 employees with a subsidy of up to 70% of the costs of technical, undergraduate, postgraduate, MBA, master's and language courses, totaling an investment of more than R$ 500 thousand.
"The report is more than an account: it's a reflection of what we believe in. We remain committed to building a more ethical, innovative and humane industry," concludes Tati Marques.
