Biolab and Sandoz Sign Agreement to Launch a Semaglutide Pen in Brazil
The drug supplied by the Swiss company is expected to arrive in pharmacies in the fourth quarter of 2026
ABiolab Farmacêutica, a group comprising six brands and approximately 900 products in the fields of human health, veterinary health, and animal nutrition, and the Swiss company Sandoz announced on Wednesday (19) in São Paulo,
a partnership to market Owozy, a synthetic semaglutide-based injectable medication indicated for adults with inadequately controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus. According to the companies, the product is expected to reach the market in the fourth quarter of 2026. Anvisa approved the drug’s registration in July, as part of a group of five new semaglutide pens produced through chemical synthesis. Sandoz is headquartered in Basel and specializes in generic and biosimilar drugs.
"Owozy's entry into the Brazilian market represents an important opportunity to expand access to a high-quality treatment option for type 2 diabetes," says Isabella Wanderley, president of Sandoz Brazil. Under the agreement, Biolab will be responsible for the promotional strategy targeting physicians and for marketing, while Sandoz will be responsible for supplying the product.
Owozy was registered with Anvisa under the name Ávita Care Importação e Distribuição de Produtos. According to Biolab and Sandoz, the drug is the result of a global development platform led by Adalvo, with Ávita Care serving as the local regulatory representative during the approval process. The agreement announced now establishes the commercial division of labor between the two pharmaceutical companies for the product’s launch in the country.
