Owozy: What It Is, What It's Used For, What the Side Effects Are, and How Much It Costs

Imagine having a new treatment option with semaglutide—the same molecule found in Ozempic—but with one major difference: the ability to store it at room temperature for up to 42 days without refrigeration?

That is the goal of Owozy, a new synthetic semaglutide pen approved by Anvisa. The drug has not yet reached pharmacies; it is expected to be available in the fourth quarter of 2026.

What is Owozy?
A medication based on semaglutide obtained through chemical synthesis. Note that semaglutide belongs to the class of GLP-1 receptor agonists. It mimics the action of a hormone naturally produced by the intestine, helping to control blood glucose levels and increase the feeling of fullness.

The molecule stimulates the release of insulin when glucose levels are high, reduces glucagon production, and slows stomach emptying. It is precisely this combination of effects that helps control diabetes and, consequently, promotes weight loss.

In the case of Owozy, however, the indication approved by Anvisa is exclusively for adults with inadequately controlled type 2 diabetes. It has not been registered in Brazil as a medication for obesity.
